Emergency Funding Appeal
COULD YOU DONATE A POUND (or more) TO OUR ‘A POUND TO PROTECT’ APPEAL
Text STOP44 1 to 70070 to donate £1
Support our efforts to raise £100,000 to ensure families get the information they need to protect children.
Due to government cut backs, our Stop it Now! England campaign has lost vital funds. Its work to equip adults with the information they need to protect children is under threat from April 1st 2013 when current funding expires. 1 in 6 children experience some form of sexual abuse in their childhood – but only a small proportion of offences get reported. Recent media coverage of high profile child sexual abuse cases demonstrate that sexual abuse can happen anywhere – without anyone noticing the signs. It is also common for those with concerns to not know where to go for help.
We work to prevent abuse from happening in the first place; before there is an offender to punish and a victim to heal. Children should not be expected to protect themselves. Adults need to know the signs to look out for in children and adults and know where to get help if they have concerns.
DONATE TODAY
Over the last 10-years Stop it Now! has equipped tens of thousands of adults with the information they need to protect children from harm – and with funding we can continue to do so.
You can also choose to increase your donation. Select from the amounts below ranging between £1 to £10 and send the code to 70070.

Welcome......
…to Parents Protect, your information and resources website. Here, we aim to raise your awareness about child sexual abuse, answer any questions you may have and give you the information you need to help to protect children.
Our Aim…
is to help parents and carers better protect children from child sexual abuse. Our most important task is to prevent sexual abuse from taking place in the first place. We believe we can do this by:
- Helping to dispel some of the common myths around child sexual abuse
- Giving parents and carers practical information that will help them keep youngsters safe from harm.
We understand that child sexual abuse is something we’d rather not think and talk about – but we believe the best way of protecting children is for adults to do just that! By not being afraid to talk about the issues, we become much better able to understand the steps we can take to keep our children as safe as possible.
If at any point you have any questions, please submit them to Stop it Now! UK and Ireland using the confidential email service, or call the helpline to talk to a trained advisor.
Prevent Child Sexual Abuse
At Parents Protect we believe that the sexual abuse of children is preventable, not inevitable. As adults, there is much we can do to help protect children from harm by taking some simple steps.
Youngsters are immediately safer when parents and carers take the time to understand potential risks and take protective measures. Creating a family safety plan is a great first step in helping to create a protective environment for children and youngsters.
Get Help
As caring adults we are aware of so much that affects the lives of our children. If we notice changes that might mean that something is wrong we need to know where we can voice our concerns straight away, rather than feeling that we don’t know what to do.
There is help and support available and steps need not be taken alone.
Seeking help and advice is the first step to preventing or addressing issues around child sexual abuse.
Learn
We need to have knowledge about the issues and be able to understand the signs of harmful behaviours before we can begin to protect the vulnerable from them. To help protect children from sexual abuse we need to feel confident that we:
Understand potential risks
Recognise the signs of possible abuse in children
Are aware of inappropriate behaviour in adults
Know where to go for help if we have concerns and would like to talk about them
Our Online Learning Programme enables you to work through a number of topics at your own pace. The Programme aims to:
Give you the information you need about child sexual abuse
Show you how to create a family safety plan
Tell you who you can talk to if you are worried
You can contact the Stop it Now! Helpline or e-mail service if you have any questions at any point, as you work through the Programme.
Take Action
Beyond the immediate family we have a responsibility to make our communities as safe as possible.
This includes creating environments where children are protected from sexual abuse and other forms of harm. There is much we can do to build community strength and safety.
